Tucson Audubon Birdathon Party

On May 19, Tucson Audubon Society (TAS) celebrated their incredibly successful 2020 Birdathon with a Zoom Party! They invited me to join the party and speak a bit about Birdability!

I very much enjoyed getting to know Luke Stafford, Keith Ashley and Diana Rosenblum of the TAS staff. Winners of all kinds of great categories shared their fun stories with us, including birds and total species. The mood was high, and it was easy to see the group camaraderie. Very fun to witness. I took notes!

In closing and thanking the Tucson group, I asked to be inducted into the Tucson Audubon Society as an Honorary Member. Luke and Keith immediately responded that they had already thought of that and were on it! Great minds!

I left the meeting, again amazed at and grateful for birding communities across the country and beyond.

Y'all, there are lots of good people doing lots of good work!

Stay safe.

Virginia Rose

Virginia fell off a horse at the age of 14 which resulted in a spinal cord injury. A wheelchair user ever since, she began birding 17 years ago and discovered her best self in nature. She has led bird outings for Travis Audubon for seven years, and leads the accessible outings for the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival each year.

As a retired high school English teacher, she is passionate about bringing the same joy of birding and nature to others who have mobility or other accessibility challenges. Her infectious positive attitude is the force behind Birdability.
