Birdability Birdathon #2 on May 4, 2019!

Following up on the success of Birdability Birdathon 2018, I am again heading out to visit as many wheelchair accessible Central Austin parks as I can from dawn to dusk, seeing as many bird species as I can. I will start at Berry Springs in Georgetown, then head south to Windermere, Richard Moya, up to Lake Creek Trail, Riata, and end at Beverly Sheffield Park, close to home. Whew!

Last year I had to short change Windermere and omit Riata altogether. I had 53 species. Favorites were indigo bunting, orchard oriole and summer tanager. This year I am going for 60 birds!

We will see how many of those parks I actually hit in one long day, but with training, a map, coffee, water, snacks, and your support, I think I can do it justice! Let's do it again!

I invite anyone to join me at any time during that day, but if you cannot, please follow the link below to donate and thanks!

Virginia Rose

Virginia fell off a horse at the age of 14 which resulted in a spinal cord injury. A wheelchair user ever since, she began birding 17 years ago and discovered her best self in nature. She has led bird outings for Travis Audubon for seven years, and leads the accessible outings for the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival each year.

As a retired high school English teacher, she is passionate about bringing the same joy of birding and nature to others who have mobility or other accessibility challenges. Her infectious positive attitude is the force behind Birdability.
