Upcoming Birdability Walk on Sat., Oct. 19

Happy fall! At last! Our next walk will be at Lake Creek Trail, originating at the Braes Valley parking lot at 8 a.m.

This birdy trail is one my favorites. The parking lot has plenty of accessible parking. The trail itself is a wide sidewalk winding through forests and grassy meadows and alongside a creek.  Last weekend, birders identified 42 species, including 6 migrating warblers, Blue Grosbeak and Indigo Bunting.

Please join us! If you have binoculars, bring them. If not, I will have binoculars to loan. Bring water, insect repellent, sunscreen, and a hat. Wear weather-appropriate clothing.

Please feel free to call or text me with any questions at 512-461-6920.

Use Google Maps for Lake Creek Trail at Braes Valley or see directions below.

Directions:

1.Take 183 North to the Lake Creek exit. Be careful not to confuse that with Lakeline exit.

2. After you take the Lake Creek exit and are on the 183 Frontage Road, get in the far right lane and take a right on Lake Creek.

3. Follow Lake Creek until you get to the 620 Frontage Road.

4. Go right on the 620 Frontage Road and DO NOT GET ON 620! Stay on the frontage road in the right lane. You will see a sign that says the right lane is ending, but go ahead and stay in that lane because you're going to be turning right immediately after that lane ends on Broadmeade Road.

5. After you turn right on Broadmeade, stay on that road until you cross a small bridge.

6. Take a left on Braes Valley, and stay on it until it dead ends at the parking lot of Lake Creek Trail.

Virginia Rose

Virginia fell off a horse at the age of 14 which resulted in a spinal cord injury. A wheelchair user ever since, she began birding 17 years ago and discovered her best self in nature. She has led bird outings for Travis Audubon for seven years, and leads the accessible outings for the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival each year.

As a retired high school English teacher, she is passionate about bringing the same joy of birding and nature to others who have mobility or other accessibility challenges. Her infectious positive attitude is the force behind Birdability.
